5 Daily Prayers for Your Husband

Have you ever bowed your head and closed your eyes to pray, but instead of words coming to mind, your brain played white noise instead? Or maybe you’ve closed your eyes while laying your head on a pillow at night with intentions of having an intimate conversation with the Lord Almighty and have fallen asleep instead? When praying for your husband, these scenarios may be all too familiar. I’ve been there and know how challenging it can be to pray over a person who holds so much of your heart.

Friend, if this sounds like you too, I’m glad you’re here. I know you’re a wife who wants to see your husband thrive in his faith—we all do! But when words escape us, what do we pray? How do we string together our scattered thoughts and desires into sentences that make sense? Or how do we go beyond praying for protection for our husband or our marriage in general and pray for our husband as an individual, specifically?

Today, I want to encourage and equip you with five daily prayers you can pray over your husband and several questions you can ask him to spark conversation. As a woman of faith and as a wife, you need to know how powerful your prayers are! If you ever feel your prayers aren’t making a difference, know God hears you and answers according to His will.

When you pray, remember 1 John 5:14–15:

“And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.”

5 Daily Prayers for Your Husband

  • His Faith

Whether your husband is a new believer familiarizing himself with the Bible or a pastor writing sermons, we all have a next step to take in our faith. Remember, God knows your husband’s heart and the path He has for him. When you pray for your husband’s faith, pray these words:

Lord, thank You for my husband’s faith. Please shape him into the leader You’ve called him to be. Expand his trust in You and equip him to walk in a manner worthy of his calling. I ask that You reveal his next steps of obedience and that You give him the courage to take the steps You’ve laid before him. God, it’s so easy to want to take control of our lives. Help my husband relinquish any control he’s holding onto and release it back to You. Give him faith that overcomes fear. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

For a deeper connection, ask your husband these questions: What are you trusting God with in your life right now? In what ways would you like to see your faith grow?

  • His Fruit

Once we pray for our husband’s faith, we can pray for the fruit of his faith to grow. Galatians 5:22–23 says, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. ”When you pray over the fruit of the Spirit in your husband’s life, pray these words:

Lord, thank You for giving us Your Spirit and for producing fruit in and through my husband. We can get so caught up in asking You for fruit in the form of physical blessings that we miss praying for fruit that lasts. So today, I ask that You nurture and grow my husband’s love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

For a deeper connection, ask your husband to read Galatians 5:22–23 and share which specific fruits of the Spirit he considers to be a strength in his life. Then, ask him which specific fruits need to grow in his life. This is a great opportunity for you to gain insight into your husband’s heart as well as learn specific ways you can pray for him.

  • His Focus

Let’s face it—we all get distracted at times, right? Technology, work, life’s circumstances, and social media can act like magnets for our minds, attracting our focus toward earthly matters. If the Enemy can’t steal our husband’s faith, he will try to steal his focus. Colossians 3:2 encourages all believers to, “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” When you pray for your husband’s focus, pray these words:

Lord, You know the distractions my husband faces each day. Help him focus on what is godly. Give him wisdom and discernment to know how to prioritize his time and attention. Help him to be present. Father, I ask that You renew my husband’s mind, and fill him with the courage he needs to remove distractions that aren’t serving You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

For a deeper connection, ask your husband these questions: What do you feel distracts you the most? Is there an action you can take to remove distractions to focus on God more? Is there something you can add to your life that will help you focus on God more?

  • His Friendships

Jesus showed love to everyone and engaged with people left and right during His time on earth. However, He had a circle of men surrounding Him commonly referred to as the twelve disciples. Within the twelve disciples, He had a tight-knit inner circle of three men—Peter, James, and John. All of these men came from different backgrounds but had the shared belief that Jesus was the Messiah. Our husband’s friendships can follow this example too.

Godly community strengthens our unity with Christ. When you pray for your husband’s friendships, pray these words:

Lord, thank You for the gift of friendship. I ask that You surround my husband with godly men who stand firm in their faith. Open my husband’s heart to new friendships You have for him, and help him to leave behind the ones that don’t honor You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

For a deeper connection, ask your husband these questions: Who do you consider to be in your inner circle of friends? Do you feel these friends point you to Christ? If not, is there something holding you back from connecting with other godly men?

  • His Future

One of my favorite quotes about dreaming God-sized dreams for your future is from Pastor Mark Batterson. In his book Chase the Lion, Batterson says, “Go after a dream that is destined to fail without divine intervention.” I love that line because it reminds me that my husband and I both have access to a God who doesn’t play by earthly rules.

As wives, we have the position, privilege, and power to encourage our husbands to not only steward their daily responsibilities well but to also dream big dreams for their future. When you pray for your husband’s future, pray these words:

Lord, thank You for promising Your presence now and forever. Help my husband trust and know that You hold his future in Your hands. God, it’s so easy for us to worry about what’s ahead. Help my husband believe that You are the one who directs his steps, working everything out for his good and Your glory. Give him the courage to dream big dreams that honor You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

For a deeper connection, ask your husband these questions: What are some of your God-sized dreams for your life as an individual and as a husband? Does anything hold you back from trusting God with your future?

Friend, the fact that you’re interested in praying for your husband tells me you’re a compassionate, thoughtful, and caring wife. No matter how many highs and lows you may face, you can trust and know God is for you and your marriage.
